Optically Isolated RS-485 PLC Converter

Optically Isolated RS-485 PLC Converter

Optically Isolated RS-485 PLC Converter

This PLC optical isolation link connects easily between your Allen-Bradley model SLC 500, 5/01, 5/02 or 5/03 and your RS-485 network. It protects your PLC against ground loops, spikes and surges from data and control lines. Compare this unit to 1747-AIC.

The compact case may be mounted on a DIN Rail or panel. The included 2 foot cable connects the RJ45 socket of the isolator and your PLC. Terminal blocks provide the RS-485 link to the network. No power is required as the module draws power from the PLC. An external power supply (not included) may also be used.

Handheld devices, PCs or laptops may be connected to the RS-485 network through the RJ45 port by using a B&B Electronics Model 232ABRJ45 converter.

  • Protect your PLC from transients on your RS-485 network
  • 2000 VDC optical isolation
  • DIN Rail or panel mount
  • Compact design, complete with cables
  • Compare to 1747-AIC
  • No power supply required

RS-232 Serial to Current Loop Converter

RS-232 Serial to Current Loop Converter

RS-232 Serial to Current Loop Converter

RS-232 Serial to Current Loop Converter

Current loop signals often can transmit over circuits that serial signals can’t traverse reliably, due to distance, marginal conductors and electrical noise. Model 232CLDR interfaces RS-232 to the most common current loop ports, 20mA with open circuit voltages up to 30 V. Contact B&B Technical Support for information on higher loop currents and voltages. Maximum baud rate for current loop converters is 19.2 kbps.

The transmit loop and receive loop each can be operated as active or passive. All connections are made on terminal blocks. A single power supply (not included) between 10 and 30 VDC can power the converter and both current loops.

  • Wide voltage range (10-30 VDC)
  • Both current loops powered by a single power supply
  • Optical isolation protects devices from transients
  • Maximum baud rate is 19.2 kbps
  • DIN Rail mount
  • Free current loop application note booklet available from B&B

Intelligent Smart Switch

Model 232BSS4, our most versatile and intelligent smart switch. A single RS-232 port on your PC can now communicate seamlessly with four or more RS-232 devices.

Once configured, simply run your existing application software to converse with each device as if it was directly wired to your PC.

When used with B&B Electronics RS-485 or fiber optic converters, the Model 232BSS4 smart switch may be connected to PCs or serial devices miles away. Requires 12 VDC power. Model 232PS is recommended.

Model 232XS5 is a five-port smart switch. Its master port may be configured as either a DTE or DCE port. If the master port is DTE, the five other ports automatically become DCE ports. The port expansion feature allows cascading of up to four Model 232XS5 switches to provide up to 17 addressable RS-232 ports from a single PC port.

a compact four port mini switch. Its master port may be configured as either a DTE or DCE port. If the master port is DTE, the four other ports automatically become DCE ports. This model offers enhanced features that automatically control transmit/ receive functions, stop inadvertent switching from binary/graphic file transfers and inactive slave devices from holding control of the master port.

Model 485DSS is a distributed smart switch. Use this model when your RS-232 devices are scattered. The Model 485DSS uses RS-485 technology to reach RS-232 peripherals up to 4,000 feet away. Each switch has a unique address. A simple serial command from your host turns communications on or off or requests status. QuickBasic demo software is included.
